West St. Paul Mini Soccer Jamboree huge success

More than 1,500 people attended a Mini Soccer Jamboree at West St. Paul’s Recreation Complex, providing an introduction to the sport for kids 12 and under.

Mini Soccer Convenor Mark Dias said early rain disappeared and was replaced by perfect weather for a great day of soccer.

"I have received so many positive comments on our space and what a great atmosphere it was for soccer,” Dias says.

"The staff at the Sunova Centre did a great job in keeping the centre organized and tidy. It really seemed that kids and parents alike had an enjoyable day. It was a great way to showcase Sunova and West St. Paul.”

Dias credited FC Northwest Recreation Director Richard Elias for his work organizing the event and finding sponsors. There were bouncers and face painting for kids and each player was treated to a pizza lunch and received a Timbit medal.

Dias also praised West St. Paul Recreation Director Damara Geddes for her organizational role. He said by having concession stands open during the day they were able to raise a little money for the program.

Detlef Hindemith, Recreation Chair, said the goal of the day is to introduce the sport of soccer to both children under 12 and their parents through a fun-filled event with simplified rules, which emphasizes participation and inspires good sportsmanship.
